They could be configured for school or work.

Years ago some schools allowed the Apple Watch, and other iOS devices, the ability to add Student IDs to the wallet, allowing door access, paying in the cafe, and other things without needing a physical card.

Mosyle must have been working with Apple because they quickly announced that customers whom opt into using a beta OS version could being enrolling devices.

This is exciting to me. I think back on a project I was working on while I was managing devices for the City of Philadelphia. Leadership wanted an SOS Button for city building inspectors that might be in an altercation with a contractor or was exploring unsafe conditions.

We had vehicle tracking, but what if they parked two blocks away?

We then looked to vendors for an SOS app... but what if it was in a bag or clipboard?

My idea was to use a watch for tracking location, with a SOS app for one touch assistance.

The Apple watch is even better. We would see why a person didn't move for, say 60 minutes?

We could use the Find My network help pinpoint an employee that couldn't be reached.

Now this one is getting into "big brother" territory, but what about using the heart rate monitor to make sure all is well while on duty? The median age of inspectors skewed older. Some days were over 95 degrees and you're inspecting a building with no AC!!!

A manager also told me in the past they had issues with people driving on the highway to build up miles to get paid for - unknowing to them, the city vehicles had GPS... BUSTED!

So many use cases!

For a more technical break down, Apple created this page with video explainer: Meet device management for Apple Watch from WWDC23!

Here is the Press Release about Mosyle's watchOS MDM: Mosyle’s support for Apple Watch management is available today to all Mosyle Fuse and Mosyle OneK12 customers testing the beta versions of iOS 17 and watchOS 10.

Official site: Mosyle.com

Taiwan Brownhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16533347032959015953noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-825792490482489100.post-5520584183432017792022-03-05T16:36:00.000-05:002022-03-07T10:44:15.885-05:00Hackers leak 190GB of alleged Samsung data

Hackers leak 190GB of alleged Samsung data (Including algorithms & Source code)

UPDATE: Samsung has confirmed hackers have captured source code. As companies across the globe enforce remote work policies, it’s critical that organizations can remotely assist employees with device and app tasks or issues in real time. In this session, learn how our remote employee support solution, VMware Workspace ONE Assist, enables IT and help desk staff to remotely view or control any corporate-owned or BYO device, including Android, iOS, Windows 10, macOS, and Linux.

Hosted by Christian Bell (Consulting Architect, VMware) and Pooja Chengappa (Group Product Line Manager, VMware).

I met Chrisitan while I was working at Boeing, he was able to break down many things for me. He was also instrumental in getting me up to speed with Rugged Device Management. Once Boeing started layoffs, He even put in a good word for me with another company here in Charlotte. Everything he taught me I was able to use to get a job with Autozone right after my termination... Higher pay, more vacation time... unfortunately very toxic IT enviroment - and they used Soti. I took a pay cut and was able to find another job with Lowe's managing rugged devices. Mind you, this was all during the pandemic. I really enjoy it here! Thanks to Christian for making sure I had a deep understanding.
Watch the on-demand session starting tomorrow at: https://myevents.vmware.com/widget/vmware/vmworld2021/catalog?search=eus1723&tab.contentcatalogtabs=1627421929827001vRXW

I am also interested in the VMware Vexpert private sessions as well!

Want to know more about VMworld? My current job, until the end of the month, Boeing has selected me to be laid off. With COVID and the shift to working from home by most companies, I knew that I would find an opportunity quickly!

I mentioned before, I always wanted to get into education. Education seems a way I can merge my passion for service and love of mobility!

During my search for a new opportunity, I came across "Manager (Digital Bridge Program)" for the Atlanta Public Schools. After reading the post over because the name wasn't like other titles I would search for (Ex: Mobility Engineer, Mobile Device Manager, Mobile Device Architect). I noticed my past experience and certifications with Microsoft 365, Google, and VMware in Enterprise Device Management could be used here!

Unfortunately, this job requires a Bachelors's degree and having previously applied to APS and BMS (Bristol-Myers Squibb - Associate Director, Digital Capability Management, Mobility) these companies still require a Batchelor's over years of experience and certifications.

APS does say in the application that a 4-year degree is required, but so has many of the other jobs that I applied for and successfully got - I apply anyway and hope they look at my experience. Especially because I don't know of one IT Degree that teaches mobility or enterprise device management.

I found the contact information for Atlanta Public Schools' Department of IT Executive Director but before contacting him, I did a search on APS's Digital Bridge Program. Thankfully this program has a dedicated site and news coverage.

I learned so much about the program. T-Mobile's EmpowerEd Program awarded over a million dollars to Atlanta to help close the digital divide.

Internet, even in a major metro area like Atlanta is hard to come by. I would consider moving high school or at least 12 grade to Windows laptop so they can get the full feel for the operating system with the most market share.

HEY SECTOR 5, here is a freebie, feel free to send me some stock for it!

Create an intranet / suport docs in Google Sites. Most people, if not all Chromebook bulk orders will be using Gsuite, you can copy the Google Site to their Google Site and boom! You have made them an instant intranet they can customize. Make all the traning in Google Docs so the end user IT companies can brand, edit if needed, and distribute! S5 can crush this low cost market. - Oh, and an antenna port on the E6!

Now, I'm going to throw out some crazy ideas for a company to make a bunch of funding.

First, when I lived in NYC, and I think this is still going on, they had an afterschool homework help TV show. This should come back during COVID for everyone with a community access channel... and for the last 5 minutes of the show broadcast a data stream that the Chromebook can pickup for school news and other things mentioned below that can be in a one-way transaction.

Second, Applications over the air! Some type of digital tv to data USB modem so that even if it's one way. These devices can get near up to the minute current events, school news (like food distribution and floating wifi access points are), weather, and appointments (to meet with a teacher or tutor). This can also be used to deliver apps overnight like how the Intellivision downloaded games using PlayCable... app data was sent in a cycle, and the hardware knew when to listen grab it.

2.5, use FM! Microsoft already did this, it was called DirectBand, I'm sure this early 2000s tech can be improved.

2.7, use satellite! The Super Nintendo in the 90s did! XM / Sirrus has this tech compact now. Picture this, kid puts the satellite modem in the window at night and it should have all the system, app, and lessons for the next day. During the day, speed and bandwidth should be fine for the two-way activities below.

Third, bring back the dial-up modem!! Bring back IRC and BBS! Let kids talk to classmates and work on homework using bulletin boards and chat with IRC or Google Hangouts. Cities should have telephone providers allow free calls to dial in and grab email, new assignments, and etc.

These ideas will take time and money... but can live on for use after school when that on-site courses resume.

Manufacturer: https://www.sector-five.com/sector-5-e4-lte
Press Release: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/sector-5-announces-discount-pricing-154300776.html
Source: https://chromeunboxed.com/sector-5-e4-lte-review-a-new-bar-from-edu-chromebooks/

Taiwan Brownhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16533347032959015953noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-825792490482489100.post-51645701129235807962020-07-26T11:07:00.001-04:002020-07-26T11:07:31.644-04:00Should the enterprise be quick to adopt Wi-Fi 6 or wait for 6e?

Bradley Chambers, An Apple mobility professional currently working as a device manager for the Brainerd Baptist School, has been working in this field since 2009. The FCC recently allowed unlicensed use so that companies (and maybe hardcore hobbyists) can test in the 6 GHz band without all the paperwork.

Therefore, Wi-Fi 6e won't be here for a while!

What I was not aware of was that some consumer devices already have Wi-Fi 6 support. According to Bradley:

On the Apple side, only the newest iPhones and the latest iPad Pros support it. The current Apple TV doesn’t support it. The brand new MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros don’t support it. Even the high-end Mac Pro doesn’t support it.

Strange no Mac devices support it. I guess if you are doing anything that needs a fast connection, you should be hardwired with Gigabit Ethernet.

Wi-Fi 6 and 6e chips can fall back to 5 Ghz and 2.4 GHz (which is most common) and its routers can broadcast to older technology. This is great, I remember getting a 5 GHz router and then my older printer stopped working because it could only see 2.4 GHz networks. I reverted back to using USB until I couldn't take it anymore and got a new printer with Google Cloud Print - which is now going away at the end of 2020... I just can not get ahead of the curve!

My take... just wait. For the full benefit of the next generation of wireless networking, you will need a major upgrade in hardware - Unless you have something speed-critical and the budget.

Check out his full article: https://9to5mac.com/2020/07/25/wifi-6e/

Check out the Apple @ Work series of post and podcast: https://9to5mac.com/guides/apple-at-work/
Taiwan Brownhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16533347032959015953noreply@blogger.com1New York, NY, USA40.7127753 -74.0059728-6.1142537783819009 -144.3184728 87.539804378381888 -3.693472799999995tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-825792490482489100.post-16221260595828551652020-07-21T22:57:00.001-04:002020-07-22T00:35:42.924-04:00G Suite & Apple Business Manager

This morning, I got an email from Google which linked me to their new blog post "Safety first: Announcing 11 new G Suite security features." With this integration, users of G Suite Enterprise, G Suite Enterprise Essentials, Cloud Identity Premium, and G Suite Enterprise for Education will be able to manage the Apple App Store just like the can manage the Google Play Store for Android and Chrome devices.

This also means that admins/engineers will be able to provide a zero-touch setup for Mac, Apple TV and iOS devices. I am all about a unified console and direct fulfillment of devices straight to the end-user - connect to the internet, sign in, and go! Starting yesterday, this moved to general availability for all admins to enjoy. I imagine this will be slow to adopt with so many businesses that manage Windows devices already being embedded with Workspace ONE, MobileIron, or Microsoft's Endpoint Manager.

I see this being useful for organizations, like schools, that are mostly Chromebooks except for maybe the office staff. Also with the Slate for Education tablet devices becoming more affordable, might see some schools incorporate them but keep the G Suite accounts (even though 365 for education is free as well).

From Google's quick launch summary:

You can now manage and secure Windows 10 devices through the Admin console, just as you do for Android, iOS, Chrome, and Jamboard devices. This also means you can enable SSO so users can more easily access G Suite and other SSO-enabled applications on Windows 10 devices. This was previously available in beta.
Now, all G Suite admins can now use Google Credential Provider for Windows to:
Enable their organization to use existing G Suite account credentials to login to Windows 10 devices, and easily access apps and services with SSO.
Protect user accounts with Google’s anti-hijacking and suspicious login detection technologies.

Additionally, G Suite Enterprise, G Suite Enterprise for Education, and Cloud Identity Premium customers can now also:
Ensure that all Windows 10 devices used to access G Suite are updated, secure, and within compliance of organizational policies.
Perform admin actions, such as wiping a device and pushing device configuration updates, to Windows 10 devices from the cloud without connecting to corp network.

More info:

How to enroll a device in Windows device management

How to enable enhanced desktop security for Windows

Source: https://www.zdnet.com/article/you-can-now-manage-windows-10-devices-through-g-suite/

Original Source (and photo): https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2020/04/enhanced-security-windows-10-google-login.html
Taiwan Brownhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16533347032959015953noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-825792490482489100.post-36309580741651923902020-02-10T10:00:00.000-05:002020-02-10T10:00:10.043-05:00Mobility Engineer Wiki

I've been pretty busy moving from the North to the south to advance my IT Mobility career that I had to put this site on pause. This job does not allow me the time to work on this site while on the clock. Much stronger firewalls here!

This update is to announce that I have moved the Wiki from Wikidot to Miraheze. Miraheze runs the same platform Wikipedia does and gives a much purer Wiki experience!

The URL is still Wiki.MobilityEngineer.com

I hope to get a few pages done in the coming weeks... feel free to help and not vandalize anything.

Thank you to Miraheze for quickly creating my account, wiki, and provisioning the CNAME. I've sent this great non-profit a few coins. If you can, visit https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Donate

If your VMware AirWatch was direct billed through AT&T, you may or will be receiving written notice about the change to Workspace ONE.

No need to be alarmed, AirWatch is being retired for WorkSpace One (powered by AirWatch).

What you will need to watch out for is the line that mentions "AT&T may change the rates, terms and conditions of the service upon required notification." AT&T will not be grandfathering current users on this plan, you will go month-to-month after your contract ends. Without a contract, I'm sure changes will apply with all of the new offering coming to Workspace ONE.

AT&T has also updated its business page to reflect the new branding: https://www.business.att.com/products/vmware.html

Not sure how Sprint will handle their recently launched "AirWatch Express" ... maybe Workspace ONE Express is coming soon?
The leading enterprise mobility management service, Workspace ONE and a lighter option AirWatch Express. Here is a break down of the two services from the press release:

Workspace ONE – Empowering the Workforce and Company

Effective and efficient management of all device types including mobile, desktop, rugged, IoT, wearables and peripherals

Centralized IT management for policy administration and device management from a single console with multi-tenancy for large distributed organizations

Employees will be able to experience ease of access and greater productivity with single sign-on and consistent access experience to all their apps on any device

AirWatch Express – Simplified Solutions for Small Organizations

A mobile device management (MDM) solution for small organizations that need a quick and easy way to manage organizational devices

AirWatch Express blueprint setup wizard lets managers quickly configure devices and deploy apps

The press release goes on to say:

Both Workspace ONE and AirWatch Express are designed to empower employees by providing access to the tools they need on their devices while helping to protect valuable company data by managing and enforcing company policies, access to applications and data , and ultimately, if a device is lost or stolen they can remotely lock the device and wipe the data.

From Microsoft Support's Windows 10 Mobile End of Support FAQ page:

What does end of support mean for customers?

End of support means there will be no more product or security updates for the Windows 10 Mobile operating system (OS). [...] After the end of support, automatic or manual creation of new device backups for settings and some applications will continue for 3 months, ending March 10, 2020. Some services including photo uploads and restoring a device from an existing device backup may continue to work for up to another 12 months from end of support.

What should Windows 10 Mobile customers do now?

As much as I love my Android device, I really enjoy deploying iPhone / iOS in the enterprise. If your users are coming from the Window's Mobile tile desktop, I believe it will be easy to convert them to iOS. Do not use this opportunity to become a mixed usage policy... unless you have the staffing and plan to create new documentation.

Egnyte, a SaaS provider that delivers secure content collaboration, compliant data protection, and simple infrastructure modernization, crunched some data on its enterprise users and created a useful infographic.

Hopefully, if you are in this situation, you are using Intune or another EMM. This will make your transition/deployment easier!

I would recommend reaching out you Business sales of a smartphone manufacturer or CDW to assist with rollouts You could also contact your wireless carrier to see if they offer any deployment assistance.

A few months ago, I posted about Google's Android Enterprise Recommended, devices Google recommended for workplaces. Google has since updated its recommendations and included Enterprise Mobility Management vendors.

Of course, Google recommends it's own G Suite / Google Cloud EMM... but also includes a list of other top companies in the device management space:

VMware (Airwatch / WorkspaceONE)

MobileIron

SOTI

Blackberry

IBM (MaaS360)

I was a bit shocked to see the partners also included Microsoft's Intune, i³ Systems' CLOMO, and SoftBank's Business Concier Device Management (BCDM).

To see the full list of Google Approved EMM providers - check out the Enterprise Solutions Directory.

I also found some smaller companies on the list, I am surprised to see ManageEngine's, better known as Zoho Mobile Device Manager Plus missing from the initial vendor list.
